MechanicBrief
Support
MechanicBrief helps you read OBD trouble codes and live data with a plain-language brief. It is not a substitute for a qualified technician.
How to get help
Email ineedit@caferace.com with:
- Your iPhone model and iOS version
- MechanicBrief app version (from the App Store or the app’s about screen, if shown)
- Adapter brand/model if you know it (ELM327-compatible Bluetooth)
- What you tried, and what you saw instead
FAQ
Pairing an ELM327 Bluetooth adapter
- Turn the vehicle ignition on (engine running or accessory, as your adapter requires).
- Plug the adapter into the OBD-II port and wait until it is ready (often a steady or blinking LED—check your adapter’s guide).
- On iPhone, open Settings → Bluetooth and pair the adapter if iOS lists it. Some ELM327 units use a pin such as
1234or0000; use the pin printed for your unit. - Open MechanicBrief and connect from the app. Stay close to the adapter; Bluetooth range is short.
- If the app cannot connect: forget the device in iOS Bluetooth settings, power-cycle the adapter, and try again. Not every “ELM327” clone behaves the same on iOS.
Reading codes and live data
Once connected, the app can request diagnostic trouble codes and live sensor-style data from the vehicle’s OBD interface, then present a plain-language brief. Exact availability depends on the vehicle and adapter.
Clearing codes — important caution
Where is my data stored?
Scans and any records you save (such as receipts or document photos) stay on your device. You may optionally use your own iCloud. See the privacy policy.
VIN decode
VIN lookup uses the free NHTSA vPIC decoder. The VIN is sent to NHTSA for that lookup.
Purchases and refunds
Purchases are handled by Apple through StoreKit / the App Store. For billing or refund questions, use Apple’s App Store purchase support. For product questions, email us.
